What we are:

Inspiring young Canadians with fun and engaging events from our headquarters in Toronto (Ontario, Canada), the Hindu Youth Network is a spiritual, cultural and networking group for students and young adults (15-30). Our core goals are friendship, faith and community.
Mission statement:
To build a grassroots, national community space, sharing the philosophies and virtues of Hindu Dharma among young people, without division based on language, sect or nationality.

The results: With 6000+ members registered since our launch in May 2007,
Our vision (message from the President):
Dear Friends,
I often get members and new volunteers asking me to explain what The Hindu Youth Network's vision is and what objectives we're striving towards. Since
it's too broad a topic to leave to a few soundbites and blurbs, I thought I'd provide a more complete explanation of what it is we're trying to do.
I'm sure many of you have attended cultural events or events catering to people with spiritual predispositions. Have you ever noticed a certain 'vibe' or energy at those events? Sincere spiritual events have a different energy to them, in scriptural terms they call it a 'vibration', but most of us would call it a positive ambience, a tangible inviting spirit. Those who have been exposed to such events can instantly recognize it, and find comfort and pleasure in it. The positive vibe goes beyond just the atmosphere and ambience in a location, it also extends to the smiles and openness of the people who congregate there, and the joy that comes from watching performances and programming that have been prepared with devotion and love.
Events catering to young people (whether young professionals or students) which have an authentic spiritual message and vibe are few and far between. Once we leave the confines of the temple or graduate from the university where these events are held, we typically return to a mundane existence, with material relationships and superficial entertainment. We lose touch with our spiritually oriented friends (or even the friends who may not be religious but have an affinity towards Dharmic culture and that positive 'vibe' I keep referring to). When we lose touch with such friends, we finally lose all contact with that healthy environment.
Wouldn't it be nice to attend such events on a more frequent basis? To be in touch with a network of young people, a support system of like-minded positive role models and friends. Imagine doing not just spiritual events that inspire and enlighten us, but also entertaining social events in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere that doesn't compromise our values? What if any person from across Canada could get in touch with a similar network in their local city for young professionals, and a local campus network for students no matter where in Canada they may be? Now imagine, all the above benefits, connected through the largest online network of young Hindus in the world (as well as non-Hindus interested in Dharmic culture) so even when you're apart, your friends and community are just a click away. What a beautiful dream that would be...
Only, it's not a dream...it exists, here, and now. We call it the 'Hindu Youth Network'. This movement is our vision. We are building a community, united by love, built with devotion, set to high standards, grounded in virtue, inspired by scripture, enjoyable and relevant. This organization has been recognized by all as the largest and fastest growing Hindu youth movement in Canada. Our grassroots presence is unparalleled, and most remarkably, this is only the beginning. Temple presidents, mainstream media organizations and Hindu institutional leaders throughout North America have recognized in HYN the future of the Hindu community on this continent. They've openly recognized in our executive teams, the young leaders that will complete the mission started by those that came before us, to unite with humility and serve justly the Hindu community in Canada.
I hope this message helped answer any questions you may have had, and if you are a seeker sitting on the fence trying to decide if volunteering with us is the right decision for you, I say don't hesitate. Don't waste another moment, for in immersing yourself in selfless service for a greater good, you will find the answers, those who can teach you will be revealed, the knowledge that you seek will infact seek you out, a wonderful circle of friends and a positive yet enjoyable lifestyle is right before you. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
Your friend and servant,
Sayone Arasratnam
